I’m not talented, & neither are you.

Do you think talent is something you’re born with? You either have it, or you don’t, right?
At least, that’s what we’re taught to believe.
In this week’s episode, I’m challenging this notion, and inviting you to look at the phrase “you’re so talented!” in a completely different way.
What if I told you that this statement is actually a sneaky form of resistance sometimes?
Think about it: if somebody else is “talented,” they must have hit the genetic lottery. They can do “the thing” that you can’t do. And if they’re talented, but you’re not, well… why even bother.
But talent, you see, is a combination of a lot of different things. A puzzle or stew that slowly comes together. Some of the biggest ingredients being habits and practice.
While professional athletes may have some natural talent for their particular sport, they wouldn’t be where they’re at if it weren’t for habits and practice. And habits and practice generally start first with a curiosity about a thing.
How many times have you not tried something new, or expanded your mind or skillset because you felt you didn’t have the god-given “talent” for it? (If you’re anything like me, it’s been a lot of the times.)
So let’s dive into today’s episode where I riff on all things talent, resistance, following curiosities, and what this all has to do with building a personal brand that stands out.
